Proofreading: assuring that your message is of the highest quality

Proofreading is another service provided by Intertype to ensure your publication reflects the highest quality in the written word. This service will edit your publication before printing commences to remove spelling, grammar or punctuation mistakes or incorrect word usage. Checking sentence construction as well as consistency of style is included in this service as well as ensuring continuity and completeness.

Our expert proofreaders have many years of experience and are qualified to identify and repair those embarrassing mistakes. The English language is their tool of trade and you can take advantage of those skills to enhance your image through the quality of your publication.

Why is proofreading important?

Your publication is a reflection of your company. It is often the place where a potential client or partner forms their first impression of you. Too many errors will diminish that first impression. Too many long, overcomplicated sentences cause readers to lose interest. Just as your publication needs to be visually appealing, so too does it need to be readable, without the distraction of mistakes and complexity.

If you allow one error in a document, that may not be too bad. Perhaps the reader won't notice. Two or three errors? Well, still not too bad. But if you print ten thousand copies for distribution, those mistakes are out there ten thousand times each. And that could be an expensive or impossible mistake to repair.

How does it work?

Our proofreaders will not correct any typographical errors without consultation.

For any text where we recommend changes, we will consult with you to ensure you are happy. In some cases we may offer a number of options for change. You may of course decide not to accept some recommendations. The final choice of any change must always be yours.

Why shouldn't I do my own proofreading?

You can of course. And by all means do, but if you, as the author, have introduced a mistake in your document, it is not likely that you will spot it in your proofreading.

Spellcheckers in your word processing software are clever enough to identify a spelling error but not if you have used the wrong form of the word. They can't tell if you meant “there” and not “their”, “affect” and not “effect” or “historic” and not “historical”. The list is endless!
